How to organize your TikTok favorites

By Cayden and Eden, Recola's founders. Updated .

Yes, you can organize TikTok favorites. TikTok has collections: tap the bookmark on a video, then Manage to add it to one, or open the Favorites tab on your profile and create one there. Every video is still filed by hand, though, and you can't find one by what was in it.

Recola files each TikTok for you by what is in it: recipes into Recipes, places into Places, workouts into Workouts, across ten collections, together with your Instagram and YouTube saves.

The free way: TikTok collections

Collections are built into TikTok and cost nothing. Menus move between app updates, so if a label differs, look for Favorites.

  1. Make a collection

Open your profile and tap the Favorites tab, then Collections, and create a new one. TikTok needs at least one favorite before it offers this.

  2. File as you save

Tap the bookmark on a video, then Manage on the prompt, and choose the collection.

  3. Work through the backlog

Open a collection, tap Manage videos, then Add videos, and tick the favorites that belong there.

It works, but it is all by hand, and a video filed in the wrong collection is hard to find again. A favorite also keeps the video, not what was in it: the recipe, the address or the workout is still somewhere in the clip.

With Recola: TikToks file themselves

Recola is an iPhone app for everything you save. Instead of tapping the bookmark, you share the TikTok to Recola.

  1. Share the video

On the TikTok, tap the Share arrow, then More in the row of apps. If you don't see it, scroll the row to the end.

  2. Pick Recola

In the iPhone share sheet, tap Recola, or Save to Recola in the list under the apps. The first time, you may need to tap More to find it. After that it stays in reach.

  3. Tap Done and keep scrolling

Recola confirms the save in about a second. It reads the video while you carry on, and lets you know when it has been filed.

  4. Let it sort itself

Recola reads the video and files what it finds: a recipe into Recipes, a restaurant into Places, a workout into Workouts.

What changes

  • No filing. Every save is sorted into one of ten collections: Recipes, Places, Watchlist, Workouts, Books, Songs, Outfits, Products, Decor and Events.
  • What was in the video, written out: the ingredients, the address, the sets and reps, the song.
  • Search by what you remember, months later.
  • Saves come back when they are useful, instead of sinking to the bottom of your favorites.
  • TikTok, Instagram and YouTube saves in one place.

Questions

Can Recola import all my TikTok favorites at once?

Not in one go. Instagram and TikTok don't let other apps see your saved folders, so you share posts to Recola one at a time. The easy habit is to share instead of tapping the bookmark from now on, and to pass old saves over to Recola whenever you come across them.

Does Recola download the TikTok?

No. Recola reads the video to pull out what is in it, then deletes its copy. The original stays where it was posted, one tap away.

Are my saves private in Recola?

Yes. Nothing you save is published, shared or visible to anyone else.

Does Recola work on Android?

Not yet. Recola is on iPhone today.

Is Recola free?

Saving inside the app you found it in is free. Recola is a subscription through the App Store, and the Monthly and Annual plans start with a free trial.
