How to save recipes from TikTok
By Cayden and Eden, Recola's founders. Updated .
To save a recipe on TikTok, tap the bookmark icon on the video and it goes into your Favorites. That keeps the video, not the recipe. The ingredients and steps stay buried in the clip and the caption, and you scrub through it again every time you cook.
To keep the recipe itself, share the TikTok to Recola. Recola reads the video, the audio and the caption, and writes out the ingredients, the amounts and the steps, ready for when you are at the stove.
The free way: TikTok Favorites
Favorites are built into TikTok and cost nothing. Menus move between app updates, so if a label differs, look for the bookmark.
Tap the bookmark
On the recipe video, tap the bookmark icon on the right. The video is added to your Favorites.
File it in a collection
Tap Manage on the prompt that appears and add it to a collection, such as Dinners. You can also make collections from the Favorites tab on your profile.
Find it later
Open your profile, tap the Favorites tab, then Collections.
This keeps the video. It doesn't keep the recipe: there is no ingredient list, no way to cook for more people, and finding one dish again means scrolling and rewatching. Favorites also stay inside TikTok, apart from the recipes you saved on Instagram or YouTube.
With Recola: the video becomes a recipe
Recola is an iPhone app for everything you save. Setting it up takes a minute the first time; after that it is two taps.
Share the video
On the TikTok, tap the Share arrow, then More in the row of apps. If you don't see it, scroll the row to the end.
Pick Recola
In the iPhone share sheet, tap Recola, or Save to Recola in the list under the apps. The first time, you may need to tap More to find it. After that it stays in reach.
Tap Done and keep scrolling
Recola confirms the save in about a second. It reads the video while you carry on, and lets you know when it has been filed.
Cook from it
Open Recipes in Recola. The dish is there with its ingredients and amounts, the steps in order, and a timer on any step that has a time in it.

What you get back
- Ingredients with amounts, written out. When a video doesn't say an amount, Recola estimates it and marks it, so you know which ones to check.
- The steps in order, with a tap-to-start timer on any step that has a time in it.
- Servings you can change, with the amounts following.
- A shopping list you can send to yourself or to whoever is doing the shop.
- The original video one tap away, so you can still watch the creator make it.
- Every recipe from TikTok, Instagram and YouTube in one Recipes collection, searchable by what you remember, like that green pasta.
Questions
Can I save TikTok recipes on iPhone?
Yes. Both ways above work on iPhone, and Recola is an iPhone app.
Does Recola work on Android?
Not yet. Recola is on iPhone today.
Can I save TikTok recipes for free?
Saving inside the app you found it in is free. Recola is a subscription through the App Store, and the Monthly and Annual plans start with a free trial.
Does Recola download the TikTok?
No. Recola reads the video to pull out what is in it, then deletes its copy. The original stays where it was posted, one tap away.
What if the amounts are only in the caption?
That's common, so Recola reads the caption and the creator's pinned comments as well as the video.
Can I save recipes from Instagram and YouTube too?
Yes. Recola works from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and nine more apps, plus Safari and your camera roll, and everything lands in the same ten collections.
